Research Interests

Currently, I am working to expand the cell imaging facility located in the Animal Health Research Center. This resource includes a state-of-the-art confocal microscope (Zeiss Axio Imager M1 with LSM 510 Meta), two analytical flow cytometer instruments (BD LSR-II and Luminex X200), two state-of-the-art high-speed cell sorters (a BD Aria-II SORP and BD Influx), and a high-content / high-throughput acquisition and analysis system for the study of tissues and plate-based specimens (Cellomics vTi). One of my main objectives is to educate students and fellow scientists in how to best use these powerful technologies.
My interests include the development of novel assays to assess the interplay of zoonotic viruses with host immune function using microscopic, flow cytometric, multiplexed bead-based and quantum dot technologies.
Additionally, I hope to develop a flow cytometry-based in-vitro diagnostic service available to the UGA and surrounding Vet Med communities. In collaboration with clinical faculty at the Teaching Hospital, we hope to develop and validate tools to aid in the rapid diagnosis of hematopoetic neoplasias and viral infections.
