CONFERENCE BACKGROUND For the first time in ten years, an international workshop focusing specifically on equine nematode infections will take place in Copenhagen in 2008. In this workshop we will discuss the issues involved in the design, analysis and interpretation of the FECRT in horses. In addition, we will discuss the current state of anthelmintic resistance in equine parasites, the most recent advances for in vitro diagnosis of anthelmintic resistance in cyathostomins, and we will highlight opportunities and research needs to develop sustainable methods for control of equine parasites. It is hoped that the outcome of the workshop will contribute substantially to the development of WAAVP guidelines. The meeting will consist of a series of presentations from invited speakers, with blocks of time reserved for discussion. Working groups will be formed and these will prepare reports for submission to the WAAVP equine parasite guidelines committee. This committee will then produce the final set of guidelines for publication in a special issue of Veterinary Parasitology. For more information, download the full meeting synopsis [PDF]. HARBOUR CRUISE SOCIAL Meet for the cruise at the Copenhagen Harbour on July 31, 6 p.m., where we'll board a boat from DFDS Canal Tours. It has room for 100+ people, and it is covered (very important with the local climate). The boat will take us for a 50-minute guided tour around the Copenhagen Harbour. We can bring drinks aboard. We will arrive at the Trekroner Sea Fort at approximately 7 p.m., where a delicious three-course menu, with drinks of our choice, awaits. The fort is situated on an artificial island that was originally built in the 1740s. A direct boat back to the Harbour leaves once every hour. More information is available on the Trekroner Sea Fort Web site: www.trekronerfortet.dk/uk.php SPONSORS We gratefully acknowledge the following sponsors for their support of our conference: Network on Veterinary Parasitology in the Nordic and Baltic Region ![]() ![]() ![]() This page was last updated July 18, 2008. |
