Summary
The goals of this rigorous course are to provide veterinary pathology residents and pathologists with information needed to understand basic ultrastructural techniques and to identify tissues, interpret changes in tissues, and identify organisms at the ultrastructural level. In addition, veterinary pathology residents will learn how to describe electron micrographs. Although designed for veterinary pathologists and pathology residents, this course also is appropriate for graduate students and researchers in other disciplines wishing to incorporate electron microscopy into their research.
The course will begin with an overview of transmission and scanning electron microscopic techniques, including special techniques such as negative staining and immunoelectron microscopy. This will be followed by sessions on basic ultrastructure, normal ultrastructure and pathologic changes in individual organ systems, agent identification, and written description of electron micrographs. Saturday evening will be devoted to residents and practice with description writing.
Conference attendees will receive conference presentations and images on a CD.
